Metabolism testing involves indirect calorimetry to measure your resting metabolic rate (or energy production), the efficiency at which your body is burning this energy and the type of fuel source being used (fat and/or carbohydrate).
A portable indirect calorimeter called ECAL is used to measure and monitor critical elements of your metabolism to determine: your daily energy requirement at rest in calories, how this energy is being produced (whether from fat or carbohydrate), and the efficiency with which cells use oxygen for energy production.
This testing assesses your oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production and is able measure your ‘fat burning’ ability and whether there is potential for an energy-related metabolic disease/disorder impacting your health status such as the inability to metabolise fat well. Metabolism testing allows for review of the effectiveness of dietary or exercise interventions on your metabolism and potentially the impact of other self-care practises such as sleep quality and stress management etc.
When the test is completed, you will be provided with a preliminary report detailing an overview of your current metabolic efficiency. A more comprehensive report will be emailed detailing dietary, lifestyle and medical considerations based on the assessment findings. The results can be used to formulate or fine-tune individualised nutrition, exercise and healthcare planning to help correct disordered energy production. You can repeat the ECAL test at any time to assess progress and improvements in your metabolic profile.
