This interview uses SUGAR®, a structured evaluation tool that examines a person’s relationship with food, eating behaviours and related consequences according to ICD-10/ICD-11 and DSM-5 criteria.
This process can determine whether you have a normal, harmful, or addictive relationship with SUGARS – the carbohydrates encompassing sugar, grains, flours and ultra processed foods with addictive, psychoactive, drug-like properties.
SUGAR® is used to assess and map the pathological use of sugars, a type of neurochemical dependency on certain foods. It also aids in the development of a Holistic Treatment Plan featuring holistic therapies of addiction recovery, which encompass several aspects of healthy living that can be utilised with medical services in the provision of care. The SUGAR® Interview is not designed to be therapy, however many clients say it is a therapeutic process where they have been “heard” perhaps for the first time.
This interview is ideal for those showing signs of carb/sugar/food addiction and disordered eating patterns which can include (but not limited to) symptoms such as: binge eating; eating more than intended; suffering irresistible cravings; suffering compulsions to eat uncontrollably; neglecting better foods in favour of cravings or obsessions; constantly thinking about food or body weight; finding certain foods (or food) intrude or obsessively occupy thoughts, feeling hopeless about your relationship with food, and finding yourself attempting one diet or food plan after another, with no lasting success.
